ON DARREN'S SITE GO: HERE
Darren Hayes: Well hello there..
admin: Hi Darren
Tracey: Hey Darren, thanks for joining us
Darren Hayes: It is a pleasure. Can I say thanks especially to my Australian fans who have risen way too early!! But thanks for being here! X
Tracey: aww that’s very sweet so are you ready to get underway?
Darren Hayes: Uh. Yeah!
Maggz: catatthesea asks "Darren many artists are especialy remembered for one song, out of all yours what would be the one song you would most like to be remembered for?-Cathy x"
Darren Hayes: That's a great question Cathy. I still think I'm yet to write a classic that I could say was my all time best effort .. or the one that summed me up the best.. but I'd say that songs like 'two beds and a coffee machine' and ‘unlovable’ are in the short list. X
Maggz: Laurie asks "Hey Darren. Lately there is a Kate Bush lyric that has got me intrigued - Watching the painter painting...that bit there, it was an accident but he is so pleased! It is the best mistake he could make - Do you ever make use of happy accidents of creativity"
Darren Hayes: All the time Maggz. Usually with
melodies. I'm just trying to think of a good example. O.K. I want you. I was never
keen on the chorus.. and it was always just a temporary one. And then it just stuck. Same with some of the lyrics in So Beautiful. Some of them were sort of place holders for something more significant.. or so I thought.. and then eventually I realized that those were the lyrics that were meant to be.
Tracey: OnlyLonely asks "While you are touring or abroad, who takes care of Wally?
Does he have a nanny?"
Darren Hayes: Haha. Wally goes to a luxury pet
spa. He had one in San Francisco out in the country side and it was incredible.
Here in England it will be his first time really away from me and not with a friend
or family member. He's going out to run in the woods and over streams. He's going to
be spoiled rotten. And as much as he loves me.. he loves grass, and nature more!
Spinner: todariamu asks "Hey Darren, what has been the best or most exciting thing
that has happened to you since planning for your upcoming tour began?"
Darren Hayes: Hey Todariamu. Most exciting thing I'd say is the new arrangements of the music. I've had a blast adding special moments and digging up old favorites. There are many many suprises. I've loved that most of all. And then of course the video images and films we've commissioned and I've personally worked on. It's already been so satisfying.
Tracey: Maria asks "Hello Darren, another artist I love, Beverley Knight, described Rio as inspiring becasue it literally "has a rhythm". Are there any places you feel like that about & does you location influence your songwriting?"
Darren Hayes: Hey Maria
Darren Hayes: I always thought Irealand had a magical kind of energy. Does that count? All cities have their own unique quality. Rio is definitely sexy. London is eccentric. San Francisco is like a warm blanket. New York is Spikey.. but of all the places to write, just 'home' is my favorite. Wherever that is.
Spinner: darrensmistress asks "Darren, Where do you see yourself in the next ten years"
Darren Hayes: Hello mistress I never knew I had..
Darren Hayes: Um..
Darren Hayes: Ten years. I'll be 43. I see myself as making incredible records and having a reputation as being a solid live performer. That's my goal. I'd like to win a grammy. I'd like to continue experimenting and pushing and live up to the enormous amount of love and expectation you guys have. I always say it, but people like Madonna, Kate Bush, U2, Peter Gabriel - people who have lasted really inspire me with their ability to be true.
Tracey: santamonica asks "Hi Darren. You mention you like the new Pink video. Do you think there is more pressure on women then men to be accepted by society for who they are and not just the image they portray?"
Darren Hayes: Hey Santamonica. I now think it's completey equal. And it is terrible. I'm so tired of celebrity for celebrity sake. Tired of the pressure for both men and women to not only be impossibly thin but be impossibly everything... ageless.. wrinkle free.. fat free.. have ridiculously white straight teeth. Fake body parts. It's gross to me and I like Pink at least for being different and saying to the world that you can be an individual and be so sexy.
Tracey: CindyG asks "Hi Darren, can not wait to see you in two weeks! I think it is so cool that you performed at the Sundance Film Festival. What is your favorite memory of your experience there?"
Darren Hayes: Fave memory would be Leonie flying down a mountain, arms in the air.. screaming at the top of her lungs..'roberrrrt! Help meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!'
Spinner: IWantYouDarrenAKAAnn asks "Hi Darren. You studied screen writing a while back. Is there anything else you would like to study and if so what would it be? Good luck with the tour. Love Ann"
Darren Hayes: Hey Ann. I'd like to be more educated in general. I'd like to have a degree in Literature. I'd like to study film making. There's so many things I'd put on a wish list. But music is my first love.
Tracey: shortie asks "Hi Darren, Was listening to To The Moon and Back and this question came to mind - I wondered if you think that man actually landed on the moon or did you think it was a hoax? Personally I believe they did, Love Sheila xx "
Darren Hayes: Hey Sheila. I love conspiracy theories. And I'm not entirely convinced we did land on the moon!
Spinner: SerendipityJo asks "Hi Darren.. Hope that you are well and looking forward to the tour like we are.. Is there anything you have to do superstitiously before you go on stage? And do you peep at the audience? Love Jo x"
Darren Hayes: Hey Jo. I don't peep at the audience as it ruins the surprise for me. And there's always a chance I'll be caught! How sad would that look? lol.. Superstitions are not really stage related for me.. so nope. I always cross my heart ie the holy trinity cathlolic tradition but I'm not really a Christian.
Tracey: dirtycrush asks "Hey Darren, if you could choose a username besides Darren Hayes for your fanclub what would you choose? Love you lots Soph xx"
Darren Hayes: BigBoyWonder
Spinner: Nutsy asks "Hi Darren, If george Lucas decided to put on a Musical production of StarWars would you audition for it and which part would you go for? Give Wally a belly rub from me. XX"
Darren Hayes: I don't know.. I made that up!
Darren Hayes: Hey Nutsy. Nope. Star Wars should be left alone! I'd audition for Baz Lurhman any day though.
Spinner: HappyHails asks "Hi Darren Is there anything in your life so far that you haven,t done that you would like to??? Thankyou,Hayley.xxx happy early birthday.Have a good one!!!"
Darren Hayes: Hey HappyHails.. I don't really have a lot of regrets in my life.. so not really. I always say that parenthood is the last frontier.. everything else in between is fun and a job.. but I toy around with the idea. Trouble is, I really love my life right now. I am not number one at anything and I feel free to sort of muddle about doing my thing. It makes me happy. My goals tend to be artistic and spiritual these days rather than achievement based. Having said that, I would like to go to Venice. Have never been!
Tracey: Lainey_Carey asks "Have you ever conisdered writing an autobiography since you obviously have a natuarl talent for writing as we see on popjustice"
Darren Hayes: Thanks Lainey. Yeah I have thought about writing a first person account of my experiences in my life. Not necessarily an autobiography like.. 'the fabulous life of celebrity x..'.. but I do think I've got a way with stories and I have some to tell. So one day, sure.
Spinner: fallenangel asks "Hey Darren Thank you so much for doing this chat. i love the way you re-invent your songs, changing the the words and sometimes adding bits from other songs and giving it a different feel . At the MAX session, you added the bit from the Eurymthmics No More I Love You" to TMD. That seemed at odds with the sentiment of TMD, can i ask you why you chose that particular song to add?"
Darren Hayes: Great Question. Because, it is completely at odds with the song. And.. because Truly Madly Deeply changed my life in good and bad ways. So no more I love yous was me saying .. this era has passed. I'm also much more intrigued by the sadness of love than just the joy. So in that version I got to combine both.
Tracey: alleycat asks "I read that Fleetwood Mac was one of your musical influences. What do you think of Lindsey Buckingham s work as a solo artist?"
Darren Hayes: I think Lindsay is a genius. I love his production style. My sister got me into Fleetwood Mac. It was all about Rumors, Tusk, Mirage and Tango in the Night. And then of course everything Stevie Nicks has ever touched.
Spinner: Bickie asks "Hi Darren, my nephew got suspended from school for 3 days last week so I wanted to know if you ever got in trouble at school? Love ya!!"
Darren Hayes: I was a nerd. So I didn't ever get suspended. But in my final years of high school I was a rebel in terms of standing up for what I believed in. I got in trouble for fighting back. I got the cane once. Oh yeah, and almost got suspended for use of foul language. But that's another story.
Tracey: tonysgirl asks "Have you been to San Antonio, Texas before?"
Darren Hayes: Of course. I love it. One of my best friends from college is married and lives there now with her American husband. It's cool.
Spinner: Vickie Morris asks "Hi Darren, what are you most looking forward to on tour? See you in London!, love Vickie Morris"
Darren Hayes: Hey Vickie. Most looking forward to your reaction. Seriously.
Tracey: queenofrain asks "hi darren. i was wondering , since u like to explore new fields in music, have u ever thought about incorporating the Egyptian & middle east style in your music? love, Marianne"
Darren Hayes: Hey Marianne. I don't know if I ever really sit down and target a specific 'sound' per se. I just know I get bored easily with music so my style tends to change a lot. But I love middle eastern strings and percussive arrangements. I think Madonna did it best with her Ray of Light album. The strings in Frozen for example. or the beats in 'Skin'.. sublime.
Spinner: ~Janie~ asks "Darren to what extent do you feel that karma has exerted an influence upon your life and how important do you consider that believing in having faith in yourself to be?"
Darren Hayes: Wow janie. Good question needing more time than we've got. Short story.. I truly believe.. No... I have witnessed.. that what you do will haunt you. Good or bad. And it's on a second by second basis. You must project possitivity and love if you want to receive it. You must ask the universe to conspire with you if you have a pure heart . If what you want is for good and is not based in ego or greed, chances are you'll get it. I truly believe this. Sometimes the cycle of cause and effect is so slow that we think it doesn't exist. But sooner or later.. it all comes back to where it started. Good or bad.
Tracey: *Jo* asks "Hi Darren! You said in the press release that you considered adding a dress code onto the tour tickets - what would that have been?? See you on tour!! xx"
Darren Hayes: Well, seriously, that was a joke. It's a big night in. And I, for one, shall be in some very nice threads. If you end up on stage chances are troy will make you over, so don't bother! lol..
Spinner: Darling asks "Hello Darren! Thank you for sharing this beautiful night with us!!! My question is: Do you feel the loss of soul sometimes? If so, what or who makes you come back? Love always, Lubov."
Darren Hayes: I sometimes have felt lost in my direction. Or my purpose. What brings me back? Well, of course I'm surrounded by love.. but honestly that can only ever be you that snaps you out of your haze. I just try to believe in my inner strenght and listen to my gut. It never really lies
Tracey: affirmation1 asks "Hi Darren hope you are well " Can you tell me please how the preperations for the tour are going? thank you love from Sheila and Shannon (granddaughter) xx"
Darren Hayes: sorry about my typos!
Darren Hayes: Hello Sheila and Shannon Granddaughter. What an intriguing surname you have.
Darren Hayes: Well.. the tour prep is heating up. I spent all last week wtih Robert going over songs and arrangements.. working up new ideas etc.. before that I have spent about a month doing the tour book photoshoot, the layout..the merchandise.. planning the other dates around the world.. and working my ass off in the gym. This week the band rehearsed without me.. next week with me.. then there's final costume fittings and then 3 days of dress rehearsals. So it's busy!
Spinner: Mirna777 asks "Hi Darren, how do you wind down after a gig? xLove Mirna p.s Wishing you a great Easter! GOD BLESS! "
Darren Hayes: Hey Mirna. x Well. I usually have a hot shower, make a lovely cup of tea, and watch a movie in the back of the bus. I then get all excited about the bunk bed and go tip toe off there to my bunk. I fall alseep in moments. The rocking and the buzz of the bus sends me into a trance. zzzzz
Tracey: gemma_ asks " Hi darren, What inspired you to take up yoga? and what benefit do see from it? love gemma xx"
Darren Hayes: Yoga makes me less angry. My friend Angi Bekker inspired me because she was so radiant. And fit. I only do it 2 times a week now but I hadn't done it for years so it's nice to come back. It really connects me to that inner compass.
Spinner: Lindsay asks "What is your motto nowadays?"
Darren Hayes: I don't have a motto. If I had to think of one it would probably be 'let it go'.. because nothing is really worth the drama!
Tracey: KirstyC asks "Hey Darren, What Would You Prefer A Bath / Shower, Love Kirsty X (Happy Birthday In Advance)"
Darren Hayes: Oh my God. Shower. Every time. I LOVE the shower. Baths bore me to tears.. I stay in the shower way too long!
Spinner: charisma76 asks "do you feel like you\'re where you want to be?...complete that is....I remember you from madame tussauds...and my kids do too...bless your heart darren"
Darren Hayes: Well thanks! I do feel I'm where I want to be. I'm not where I wanted to be though. Sometimes what you want is not what you need. Right now I've got what I need. And there's a huge difference in my life. I'm a very lucky man to have all the people around me who have stuck by me so long.. throughout all my drama and rollercoaster rides. I'm just happy with where I'm at.
Tracey: cmjmaria asks "Hi Darren, thank you so much for the exclusive audio you promised us! can you tell us something about it, I can\'t wait to hear it Huge thanks for everything, always. Maria (Venice, Italy)"
Darren Hayes: The audio is unreleased versions of songs. Rare things. Demo vocals. Unfinished things. Just stuff you might find interesting.
Tracey: january asks "Hi Darren, what did you have for breakfast this morning? can\'t wait for the tour, Sandra xxx"
Darren Hayes: Hey january. I had raw organic oats with rice milk and sprinkled some linseeds and raisons and nuts on top.
Spinner: ToneToTheBone asks "Hey Darren, do you wish for anything special for your birthday this year? Hugs from Pia in Denmark xxx"
Darren Hayes: I really honestly don't need a thing. Just a lovely night out.
Tracey: ElleD asks "Hi Darren..with being so busy preparing for the tour, are you still needing to get up in the early hours to work on other creative ideas that fill your head? Love Lou x
Darren Hayes: I am not working on anything but the tour. Which was sort of the plan really. Stop me from working on the next record so I could get some distance from the songs. But there are so many other areas like the visuals, the graphics, the merchandise and things of that nature .. that my creative hat is bursting at the seams.
Spinner: littlevee asks "Hi Darren, will the (famous in its own lifetime) PURPLE, so very soft, velvet jacket being making an appearance during the tour and if it does can I please have another feel ? Thank you!"
Darren Hayes: Well Little V.. you are now on the top of my list of favorite things. Yes it is purple. With a capital P. Lana was wrong! It's actually called aubergine by the manufacturer so work that out!! The velvet will not be coming back. I wore that sucker to death didn't I? Nope.. but you can expect very tailored clothing. Very cool!
Tracey: Anne_adores_Darren asks "Hello Darren.I wanted to know about your thought process when you wrote Random Blinking Light?Do you still identify with that song today?Thanks..xxAnne"
Darren Hayes: Anne I do!! I wrote that song as an ode to the 'beacon' in me that was 'calling' for my soul mate. And it worked.
Spinner: todariamu asks "Hey Darren, what has been the best or most exciting thing that has happened to you since planning for your upcoming tour began?"
Darren Hayes: the feeling of dejavu
Tracey: SueJ asks "Hi Darren, I\'m sooooo looking forward to the tour...can\'t wait!!! My question is have you got a favourite room in your new house and if so which one? "
Darren Hayes: Favorite room is the magical room. Or the Paisley Room. Or the tea room. Can't decide what to call it. But it features wallpaper by cole and son.. who have been making wall paper for hundreds of years. It's purple and the room has many incredible lamps and velvet and really looks like something Stevie Nicks might love. It's the only over the top room in the house and I love it. Heavely inspired by Biba.
Tracey: Spinner: so what is your knee measurement?
Darren Hayes: Good question Spinner. No idea. But he took it so my pants would make my ass look tiny and my groin enormous. The wonder of tailoring.
Spinner: Skyliner asks "Hi Darren this is my first chat and Ive been waitin 4 this! I want to know What Sort of BIG NIGHT IN YOU REALLY want with your Fans!!! (bearing in mind we have ALL seen the POSTER!!!lol)"
Darren Hayes: Well, I want a party. And I want to feel like we've all hung out together at the end of the night.. and some of you are refusing to leave and then I have to politely call the police and have you arrested. You know, the usual sort of get together most people have.
Spinner: TrulyScrumptious asks " Hi Darren...How do you feel you have developed musically since your move to L ndon 12 months ago? Suexx
Darren Hayes: Hey Sue.. do you know it's been almost 2 years now! I don't know if London has changed my music as much as the headspace I'm in at this point in my life. I'm feeling quite secure. And that has defintiely added a warmth to the songs I'm writing.
Tracey: mimsgirl asks "Hi Darren! I know you have a home in Australia and a home in London but if there is anywhere in the world you would most like to live where would it be and why? Loads of Luv Jo-Anne (Bristol, UK)"
Darren Hayes: San Francisco. I will always love it!! One day I will have a tiny place there and I will return whenever it's spell is wearing off.
Spinner: KirstyC asks "Hey Darren, Will your new album be as personal as your previous album \"the tension and the spark\"? love you heaps, Kirsty x (can\'t wait to see you in concert)"
Darren Hayes: Of course Kirsty. I think I've obviously turned a corner on that front and it's not a decision you can retract. I feel obligated to write about how I see the world and my experiences. Before the tension and the spark I did that maybe 50% of the time.. and I was sort of using poetic license or perhaps hiding behind metaphor. Now I just think that raw is good.
Spinner: adavis asks "Hi Darren, I\'m so excited about the concert...this will be my \"first time\". How do you decide on a theme or concept for your concerts?"
Darren Hayes: Well it's usually a reflection of a mood I'm in. For example, the Tension tour was about that.. tension.. darkness.. it was abrupt and the show reflected that. This show is, celebratory.
Tracey: tabbycat asks "HI Darren with your focus on Savage Garden music for the greatest hits and the tour have you found yourself reminiscing and if so has that been emotionally difficult for you thansk Gillian "
Darren Hayes: Not at all difficult Tabby. I love the songs. Always will. I've now spent more time on my own than I did in the band so honestly, the weight has shifted emotionally. It's just nice to know I wrote some hits and I can always drag them out if the show sucks! All jokes aside, the memories just make me smile. I was a BABY. I had no idea what was going to happen to me back then
Tracey: Ema: There are places that allow you to buy a well done copy of your favourite masterpiece at a low price. If you had a chance, is there any masterpiece that you would like having in your house?
Darren Hayes: You know Ema, I just bought it on ebay. It was a yo yo that I had as a child. An E.T one that I got when I was ten and it was black with glitter on the edges. I used to think it was the most incredible thing I'd ever seen. And somewhere along the way it disappeared. So as a 33 year old man I got to buy a few of those 'masterpieces' and put them back in my life.
Spinner: Izzy asks "Hi Darren. Really looking forward to seeing you at Hammersmith Apollo. Do you prefer venues like that, or do you prefer places like the London Arena where I saw you with Savage Garden? "
Darren Hayes: I know that's not a painting.. but you get my drift. I'd love any painting by Monet.
Spinner: emjay asks "What car(s) do you drive?"
Darren Hayes: Oooh. Good question. For this show, a theatre. No question. But I do LOVE playing huge venues. It's exhillerating.
Darren Hayes: Mini Cooper
Darren Hayes: And it's Super Duper
Tracey: DarrenSpark asks "If you were organizing a dinner in your house and could invite 3 already dead musicians who would be your guests that night? my friend Nana from mexico city send u a big kis"
Darren Hayes: Wouldn't they smell?
Darren Hayes: I'd invite the King. And there are no other musicians I like who aren't with us. So I'd choose Marilyn and Michael Jackson. I know he's not dead. But hey, I didn't follow the rules anyway.
Spinner: jodiefloss asks "Thanks for the chat Darren..my question is are you where you want to be at this stage of your life in regards to career and general life?"
Darren Hayes: Hey Jodie.. I touched on this before.. Yes I am. My personal life is gorgeous. My career.. hmmm. I think I could do with some more exposure maybe! But I love the records I make and sometimes you can't control the rest of it. I just keep plodding away and sooner or later I know it will come around again.
Tracey: dazan asks "Hey Darren, I know you are a big fan of Star Wars, I wish to know if you have an item of your collection that is special more than others... I wish let you know that I am starting to build my first lightsaber ehehe.. I will be soon a jedi knight.... see you Soon for a big night in London best wishes from italy Gianluca"
Darren Hayes: Hey Gianluca.. well I just today put all my vintage kenner 70's figures into a custom made display case in my study and I'd have to say they are my pride and joy. Them and my dagobah action play set or my speeder bike!
Spinner: *Denise* asks "Hi Darren...If you had to sum up your lifes philosophy in 2 words....what would they be?"
Darren Hayes: um.. let go ( I had to chop one word off see..!)
